Context. Festival
Diana Vishneva
Context brings new meanings and forms to seemingly familiar things. This idea that underpins the name of Diana Vishneva's festival conveys one of its missions: to reveal a different perspective and concept of dance for the audience.
The international festival of contemporary choreography "Context. Diana Vishneva" was founded in 2013 as the first major project of this format implemented by the Foundation. Since then, the Festival has evolved from a three-day event to a seasonal format. It is held in two cities, Moscow and St. Petersburg, and has a regional program.
Every year, "Context. Diana Vishneva" shows Russian audiences the finest achievements in the world of modern dance. The Festival encompasses performances staged by both famous and young choreographers, world premieres and productions highly acclaimed by critics, documentaries about the art of dance, and a rich parallel program.
The global mission of the Festival is to raise the level of modern Russian choreography and integrate it into the global context. Because it seeks to assist Russian choreographers in professional growth and development, the core event of the Festival is the Competition of Young Russian Choreographers.
"Context. Diana Vishneva" also aims to help the audience learn the language of dance and view contemporary choreography as a world where meanings and the social and humanistic statements of the stage director and artists are as important as choreographic forms.
